Millions Die From Water Diseases
A child dies from a water-related disease every 20 seconds. This statistic is shocking. Diarrhea, is such a disease that is the leading cause of deaths in children worldwide. It claims the lives of 1.4 million children each year. Ninety percent of those children are below fives years of age and live in a developing country.
The seriousness and gravity of water diseases that effect millions around the world is reflected in these grim statistics. These diseases are found in micro-organisms and chemicals in the water that people consume. Diseases such as malaria, legionellosis and schistosomiasis are caused by such contamination.
It's shocking to hear that water can cause many health problems, diseases and death. These contaminants quickly turn water into a killer. Our entire existence may be threated by the lack of drinkable water. According to the experts at the World Health Organization (WHO), approximately 4.1 percent of the entire global burden of disease is caused by diarrheal disease. All of these issues are because of unsafe drinking water.
According to the WHO, 1.1 billion people worldwide do not have access to clean drinking water, which is why water diseases are so prevalent. Malaria, for instance, is responsible for the deaths of nearly one million people annually, with many of those victims being children under the age of five. This disease is likewise linked to nearly 396.8 million serious cases annually. Those at greater risk include pregnant women. Because of malaria's presence in such tropical countries, the economic growth of African countries has been negatively impacted by approximately 1.3 percent every year for the past 30 years.
On the other hand, about 246.7 million people all over the world are suffering from schistosomiasis. Of that number, 20 million experience severe complications while 120 million have mild symptoms. The WHO said these disease can be prevented with safe water supplies, improved sanitation and better hygiene.
